Welcome to Kansas City PBS’s first Raising Readers workshop for the 2021-2022 year. LETRS for Early Childhood Educators on October 14 will be virtual.  Registration is now open.

This session will provide an introduction to the research of Lucy Paulson and Louisa Moats called LETRS. Designed to empower teachers with an understanding of the what, why, and how involved with early literacy instruction and use this information to prepare young learners on their journey towards reading and writing. We will examine the foundations of literacy development and what early childhood professionals need to know.

Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster is embarking on an extensive North American tour  with a performance planned for the  Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on October 25, 2021. The tour, An Intimate Evening with David Foster: Hitman Tour, is an extension of his highly successful and sold-out 2019 tour.

Foster, who is one of the biggest musical forces of our time, created this jaw-dropping musical extravaganza that includes the greatest hits of his career. Thrilling, humorous and refreshingly honest, David Foster performs songs he wrote or produced from his four decades of hits and includes fascinating storytelling about the songs, artists, and moments of his life. Delivered by powerhouse performers, the hits include Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” Earth Wind and Fire’s “After The Love Is Gone,” Chicago’s ”You’re The Inspiration,” Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up,” Michael Bublé’s “Home,” Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable,” and many more.

Joining the 16-time Grammy Award-winning writer/producer this time around will be singer/actress Katharine McPhee. Katharine joins David fresh off her Broadway and West End run of the hit Broadway musical Waitress. Katharine will join David for a number of his well-known songs including The Prayer.

You’re invited to a MASTERPIECE and PBS Virtual Event for All Creatures Great and Small on Sunday, December 12 at 2 p.m. CST.  You’ll get a special sneak peek at the second season of the hit British program – followed by a live Q&A session with the cast and crew!

About All Creatures Great and Small:

All Creatures Great and Small returns for an all-new season of heartfelt moments, friendship, and mischief! Transport yourself back to the Yorkshire Dales once again with James, Siegfried Farnon, Tristan Farnon, Helen Alderson, Mrs. Hall, and more. After the events of the Season 1 finale, will James and Helen find their way together? Will James decide to call the Dales home? And can Siegfried and Tristan manage to work together without complete and utter disaster? More laughs, more love, and more animals (and yes, more Tricki Woo) await in Season 2!

The acclaimed ensemble includes Nicholas Ralph, Samuel West, Callum Woodhouse, Anna Madeley and Rachel Shenton, all returning for the second season. Matthew Lewis will also return as jilted aristocrat Hugh Hulton. Actress Patricia Hodge (Miranda, A Very English Scandal) will step into the role of the eccentric, larger-than-life Mrs. Pumphrey, with the lovably spoiled Pekingese Tricki Woo right by her side.

Season 2 begins Sunday, January 9, 2022, 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.

Kids in Your Neighborhood: Kindergarten Readiness @ Virtual Event

Are your Kansas City kids getting ready for kindergarten? Join us for Kids in Your Neighborhood: Kindergarten Readiness, a four-week virtual program for parents of kids ages 4-5. This free program will provide information and kindergarten readiness materials using PBS Kids and Sesame Street resources, ensuring your little one is ready to head off to school. Weekly activities will include a Zoom meeting to introduce parents to each week’s topic, followed by optional storytime for children.

This program is being repeated and was previously offered January – May 2021 entitled “Playing to Learn: Kindergarten Readiness”

Registration for Kids in Your Neighborhood is only available for local Kansas City residents.

  • Counting to 20

Each participating family will receive a Kids in Your Neighborhood: Kindergarten Readiness
